People who suffer from a severe type of the disorder probably need immediate medical and/or psychiatric help. A severe type of the disorder would include very bizarre behaviour such as locking oneself away so that no one could have access to you, not washing for weeks or months on end, over eating to the point of bringing on illness, bulimia and anorexia. Most of those extreme cases result from some kind of very low self esteem.
